Brand Networks CEO Todd Taplin has been replaced only seven months after the Boston ad tech company announced him as its new leader.

The company named Google vet Dave Fall as Taplin's successor on Tuesday in a press release, which made no mention of Taplin or why he stepped down after such a short tenure.

Kyle Psaty, vice president of marketing at Brand Networks, told BostInno in an email that Taplin is staying with the company through the end of the year as a strategic advisor to Fall and the rest of the executive team. However, Psaty added, there is a possibility that Taplin will stay on permanently after 2017 and join the executive team.

"It was a mutual agreement based on the best interests and future of Brand Networks, and the decision is symbolic of what’s next for our company," he said. "We’re extremely appreciative of Todd’s contributions and leadership over the past year."

When Taplin was announced as Brand Networks' CEO in March, he was taking over the leadership reins from company founder Jamie Tedford, who became chairman. Taplin previously served as the company's chief revenue officer after joining last year. Before that, he held leadership roles at Boston-based Celtra, Adobe and Yahoo.

Fall, Brand Networks' new CEO, was most recently COO of marketing tech company Tapad and, before that, served in strategic roles at Google and DoubleClick.

Psaty said Fall will play an important role in the company's future as it prepares for the early 2018 release of its new social ad campaign software platform, which will lean heavily on things such as artificial intelligence and optimization.

"The pace in which the social media advertising space is evolving is picking up, and we’re conscious of a growing demand for innovations like artificial intelligence and integrations with third-party measurement providers, and the impact that they can have on our customer’s results," he said. "We’re all-in on keeping our technology as industry-leading as possible."
