Boston College students and recent graduates can count on an additional resource to grow their startups. A new fund called Soaring Startup Circle Venture Partners (SSC VP) wants to provide BC alumni with tangible support in the most delicate phase of their business: the very beginning.

As a 12-week summer program, the fund offers a $5,000 seed investment, office space and mentorship to three to four selected teams in exchange for 2 percent equity.

The fund is meant to support Boston College students and alumni during the summer as an additional option to The Edmund H. Shea Jr. Center, which offers many co-curricular activities related to entrepreneurship during the academic year.

The 2017 edition of the program just closed, but applications for Summer 2018 will be opening around March or April, according to Miguel Galvez, co-founder and general partner of SSC Venture Partners.

Galvez, who’s also co-founder and CEO of chemical coatings and additives startup NBD Technologies, co-founded SSC as a nonprofit startup accelerator program for Boston College students four years ago. As a nonprofit, the accelerator helped around a dozen startups, including EchoMe. However, this is its first year as a venture fund.

Here are the three 2017 SSC VP teams that just went through the summer accelerator program and will present at Demo Day (descriptions provided by SSC VP and edited by BostInno). “All three companies now have products, they’re live, they’re already getting revenue,” Galvez said.
