The Top Boston Tech Hires, Promotions (and Departures) in July

BostonTopJulyHires

It may be the middle of summer, but there was still plenty of action in the Boston tech world when it came to personnel moves. One of the big announcements came from Brightcove, when it said in late July that its CEO of four years resigned. Other big moves happened at Uber, Drift, Formlabs, Akamai and Runkeeper.

If you think I'm missing someone from the list, email me at dmartin@americaninno.com.

• Akamai: Longtime employee David Belson left the company to join Dyn, the New Hampshire-based company Oracle acquired last year, as senior director of Internet research and analysis. Belson was most recently senior director of industry analysis and intelligence at Akamai.

• Arcadia Healthcare Solutions hired Karl Stubelis as its new CFO. Stubelis most recently held the same position at athenahealth.

• Brightcove CEO David Mendels resigned, the company announced in late July. Andrew Feinberg, the company's president and COO, has taken over as interim CEO until the company finds Mendels’ permanent replacement.

• CIVIQ Smartscapes, a local smart city company, added Kevin A. Wood to its board of directors. Wood is the executive chairman and co-founder at Calero Software.

• Clear Ballot, an election tech startup that has raised $18 million, recently added four executives to its team: Rosemary Fedorchak as director of customer success, Joe Jager as VP of engineering, Terrence Kevin Oleary as director of design, and R. Gregory Levy as VP of finance. Fedorchak was previously at Axeda and Healthrageous, Jager was previously at IBM and Endeca, Oleary was most recently at Acquia, and Levy has been at Nuance and Carbonite.

• Clearsurance appointed Chuck Wallace as an independent director. Previously, Wallace held executive roles at Esurance, which he co-founded, and Automatic Labs.

CloudHealth Technologies made two appointments: John Purcell as VP of product and Phil Pergola as VP of customer success. Purcell held positions at SmartBear Software and LogMeIn. Pergola previously was VP of global services at EnerNOC, which was recently acquired by Italian energy giant Enel.

• Drift, the marketing tech startup founded by two HubSpot vets, hired Ilya Mirman as its VP of marketing. He previously held the same title at Onshape.

• Formlabs added Carl Bass as an independent director. Bass has held a series of executive positions during his 24-year tenure at Autodesk, including 11 years as CEO.

• Hexadite: Jessica Couto left the company, which Microsoft recently acquired, as VP of channel to join New York cybersecurity startup IntSights. Her new title is VP of worldwide channels and alliances.

• Indigo, an agtech startup, appointed Dr. Mehmood Khan, vice chairman and chief scientific officer of PepsiCo, to its board of directors.

• InsightSquared hired Erin Rohr as director of marketing communications. She was previously as Metis Communications.

• Quick Base hired Dan Freund as senior VP of sales. Freund ended his 17-year tenure at Oracle as Group VP.

• Runkeeper founder Jason Jacobs stepped aside from his digital leadership role at ASICS, which acquired the startup last year. Jacobs handed off his role as head of global digital for ASICS to Dan Smith, who became Runkeeper's CEO at the beginning of this year. Jacobs said he will stay with the company as an advisor but hinted that he may eventually start a new venture.

• The Boston Foundation appointed C.A. Webb to its board of directors. Webb helped found Underscore.VC and was the former head of the New England Venture Capital Association.

• The Capital Network promoted Marie Meslin to executive director, a role she will also serve for TCN’s Greenhorn Connect. Meslin joined TCN in late 2015 as program director for both the TCN and Greenhorn Connect brands.

• The Grommet made three leadership hires: Ali Aslam as VP of engineering; Vanessa Ferranto as director of product management; and Doug Murphy as director of customer experience. Aslam was most recently principal software engineer at clypd, Ferranto has held roles at Zipcar and Boston Globe Media, and Murphy has held senior roles at American Express.

• Uber promoted Meghan Joyce, the former head of the organization’s Boston office, to oversee the company’s U.S. and Canadian markets. Joyce, who is from Braintree, started as Boston general manager before overseeing Uber’s statewide operations and then the entire East Coast.

• Underscore.VC appointed Jamus Driscoll as an executive-in-residence at the firm. Driscoll was previously an executive at Demandware, which Salesforce acquired last year.

• Visual IQ hired Theresa Colarusso as its SVP of customer success. She was most recently director of global client success at IBM.
