Wistia's New Product Aims to Make Video Creation Super Easy for Companies

Need to make a video for your company but don't think you have enough technical skills? Cambridge-based Wistia has released a new tool that might be just what you're looking for.

At the video tech startup's WistiaFest conference on Monday, Wistia revealed Soapbox, an easy-to-use video creation tool that lets you capture video from your webcam and desktop and cut it all together into a high-quality production, right from the Google Chrome browser. The company said the free tool can be used for a variety of departments within a company, including marketing, sales, customer support and human resources.

“Video makes connections more immediate, messages more clear, and everything more human," Chris Savage, CEO and co-founder of Wistia, said in a statement. "We see the format dominating the rest of our digital lives and, with Soapbox, our goal is to bring that same ease and ubiquity to work-related videos — for free."

Soapbox's features include the ability to capture video from your webcam and desktop at the same time, a split-screen view between the webcam and desktop, content customization options and easy ways to trim clips and make transitions.

Up until this point, Wistia has mainly been focused on providing video hosting services, as well as analytics and video marketing tools, for businesses. Founded in 2006, Wistia has grown its customer base to more than 300,000 customers, including HubSpot, Mailchimp and Starbucks, with very little outside funding ($1.43 million total, according to Crunchbase).
