Grubhub Teams Up with Toast and Upserve to Simplify Online Restaurant Orders

Local restaurant technology startups Toast and Upserve are partnering with Chicago-based Grubhub to make online ordering faster and easier, Grubhub announced on Wednesday.

For restaurant owners, this means that the process of entering online orders into their point-of-sale systems should become more efficient, allowing them to save time while managing orders placed via Grubhub. In the past, restaurateurs had to copy manually all the details of an order placed in the online delivery system, from the price to the customer's address.

Thanks to services provided by Boston-based Toast and Breadcrumb POS, the point-of-sales system run by Providence-based Upserve, the entire process can be automated.

Grubhub has been working with Upserve in a pre-release phase lasting several months. During this time, they've been rolling the integration out to a number of Breadcrumb POS customers based in Chicago and New York. One customer, Masala Box in Queens, said that the amount of time the staff has saved from manually entering orders to accepting orders went from an average time of one and a half minutes to two seconds.

More information about the testing phase can be found in this video.

Angus Davis, CEO and founder of Upserve, said in a press release that the pre-release phase was an early success in terms of shared customers: "We are excited to now bring this new program to many more of the 32 million active diners who enjoy over 23 million meals per month on the Upserve platform.”

Toast and Upserve are not the only POS companies Grubhub today announced partnerships with. The takeout marketplace is also working with Oracle Hospitality to provide restaurateurs with a unified system to manage all of their orders, both in-house and takeout, from one device.
