The boozification of Boston continues with news that the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority's The Lawn on D is vying to add wine and beer more permanently to its offerings.
According to Adam Gaffin of Universal Hub, "it finds out tomorrow if the Boston Licensing Board has any spare licenses lying around to make it happen." (I've reached out to The Lawn on D and Mayor Walsh for comment and will update accordingly when I hear back.)
Rebel Restaurants is reportedly hoping to add alcohol sales to its existing food offerings at the D Street park. As it stands, alcohol is only available within the Lawn's confines during special or private events.
If Rebel gets the license, Gaffin reports, it would offer beer and wine to of-age patrons from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Thursday through Sunday. A wristband system would be employed to keep security in check.
"The Lawn on D is an example of innovative, creative place-making. We need to encourage more unique public venues like this and make it feasible for them to bring people together year-round without having to apply for one-day alcohol licenses time after time," City Council President Michelle Wu told me.
In this same vein, the Boston Public Market announced recently it would be adding a beer and wine bar for patrons to enjoy on Thursday and Friday evenings.
