#OfficeEnvy: Inside Kronos' Towers at Cross Point in Lowell

Multinational workforce management software company Kronos is taking over multiple towers at the southern end of Lowell.

Jonathan Proffitt, Kronos' VP of global workplace solutions says that some 1,600 employees—he refers to them as "Kronites"—work in this space, a complex called "Cross Point." Kronos moved here about two years ago.

With just over 500,000 sq. ft., Kronos is by far the largest tenant in Cross Point. The complex is about 1 million sq. ft. all told. And Kronos might yet take over more space. The company is growing quickly, having added 200 employees to its headcount in Lowell alone in the last two years.

"The way the engineers work is different from the way HR works, which is different from the way marketing works," Proffitt said. "While the space is common and consistent in many ways, it had to be different to support the activities that groups do."

The space features an IT help desk, table games and swinging chairs for employees to relax with, a "sport court" and specialty rooms, including a library and a room called "sidewalk" that features only treadmill desks. Kronos installed floor-to-ceiling windows at the edges of the building, so ample sunlight floods both common areas and individual desks. Plus, those windows offer a gorgeous view of nearby New England forests, currently blooming with red and gold, and Monadnock State Park in the distance.

It's not just the natural beauty that kept Kronos in Lowell, though. The company has been a staple in the Merrimack Valley for more than 40 years, with dozens of offices worldwide. Proffitt said the team didn't want to uproot the folks who had established their lives here.

Plus, being in Lowell rather than Greater Boston means everyone can avoid the traffic.

"Whether it be in India or in Lowell or in Montreal, you don't have to be downtown or in a congested area," Proffitt said. "You can be outside of that. You can be where your employees live—where our employees live. That's really what drove our decision."
