Meet the BSOI Forum Panelists: Education

BostInno's State of Innovation is a month-long feature on mobile, marketing, retail and e-commerce, and higher education innovation in Boston. #BSOI will include research reports, indexes, and more exclusive content for Channel members and the State of Innovation Forum on June 27th. Contact us to learn more.

We’re less than a week away from BostInno’s State of Innovation Forum. And with the time ticking down, we reached out to our panelists to spark conversation before we dive deeper into dialogue next Thursday, June 27, at Communispace.

Our education panelists come from both ends of the spectrum, representing traditional and nontraditional learning. Yet, whether they hail from storied institutions like Harvard Business School or are innovating online education over at edX, they all have strong opinions on the future of higher education.

The statements posed to our panelists came accompanied by six answers—“strongly agree,” “somewhat agree,” “strongly agree,” “maybe,” “not really” or “not sure”—as well as room to elaborate. We won’t give away all the questions we’ll be striving to find answers for next Thursday, but here’s a taste of what you can expect to hear. We asked them to finish this sentence:

The cost of student loan debt is...

Meredith McPherron, director of Harvard Business School's Arthur Rock Center for Entrepreneurship

"...reaching a point where the value proposition is in question."

Christina Chase, entrepreneur in residence at the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship

"...hurting students and their ability to go after entrepreneurial endeavors or lower paying opportunities due to the burden of loans."

Mark Chang, director of product at edX

"...due to negligence and predatory behavior of for profit educational institutions."

Ariel Diaz, CEO of Boundless

"...ridiculous and will lead to a crash."

Aaron O'Hearn, CEO of the Startup Institute

"...disproportionate with wages students are getting upon graduating from college."
