Ordering a package on Amazon and having it arrive on your doorstep a few hours later just got easier for certain towns and cities in Central Massachusetts.

Just in time for last-minute holiday shopping, on Wednesday Amazon.com Inc. announced the opening of its second same-day delivery site in Massachusetts. The 200,000-square-foot, custom-built site launched in Westborough earlier this month.

The new facility is located at 64 Otis St., next door to the 350,000-square-foot robotics facility at 50 Otis St. that Amazon opened in October 2021. The robotics facility includes offices, research and development labs, and manufacturing space.

Amazon opened its first Massachusetts same-day fulfillment center in Bridgewater in March 2022. The Seattle e-commerce giant (Nasdaq: AMZN) says these smaller Amazon buildings are designed for getting orders out the door quickly, with fulfillment, sorting and delivery all concentrated in one site.

The new Westborough facility will serve the surrounding area, including cities and towns just outside of Boston like Lexington and Concord, as well as Framingham, Stow, Milford, Medway and others. An Amazon spokesperson said the coverage area will expand as the site continues to ramp up.

The company said it already employs about 200 people at the Westborough facility and plans to continue hiring to meet customer demand.

Prime customers can see if same-day delivery is an option for their area when shopping. If available, customers can make a purchase and select a time window for delivery that same day. Amazon says same-day delivery is available on millions of items for customers across more than 90 U.S. metro areas. The company plans to double the number of sites in the coming years.

“We’re thrilled to officially launch the state’s second same day delivery fulfillment center. Not only are we creating hundreds of new jobs with great benefits, we are also improving the customer experience here in Massachusetts. With this building in Westborough, you can click purchase and have your order land on your doorstep within hours,” Amazon site leader Andrew Schwarz said in a statement.
