A Birmingham-based startup located in Hardware Park raised a $1 million funding round.

The company, OpenVia, is an access control platform that gives residents, visitors and delivery drivers access to properties through their smartphones. The company works with any existing access control or gate systems, without creating the need to update or replace them, saving properties thousands of dollars.

OpenVia’s products include:

  • Access+, which gives residents access to its smartphone apps through which they can access the property and create and share temporary guest passes with others
  • Virtual Callbox, which provides video call box functionality without requiring new hardware to be installed at the entryway or gate

The round was led by Chicago-based Sandalphon Capital, with participation from Locker One Ventures, Blue Field Capital, The Fund, Sachse Family Fund and multiple angel investors. To date, OpenVia has raised just under $1.25 million.

OpenVia will use this capital to rapidly expand the number of properties served by its access software platform, expand its partnership strategies and refine its technology to better meet the needs of multifamily and commercial properties.
