A Birmingham makers organization has moved shop to Hardware Park.

Red Mountain Makers has outgrown its previous location in Woodrow Hall in Crestwood, said Steven Wyss, chair of the board of directors. Wyss said the move will double the organization's space from 4,000 to 8,000 square feet.

“Hardware Park is an amazing partner with us and has worked to make sure we can actually afford to be there and is working with us in every way they can and being great to support us,” Wyss said.

The extra space is needed to accomodate growth as the organization is expanding its class offerings as well as increasing its abilities for people to come in and learn equipment and make anything an individual wants. Apart from classes and individual learning, Wyss said the organization is hoping to work alongside other startups and companies in Hardware Park to assist in building prototypes and give employees access to the space, among other uses.

Wyss said Hardware Park is more suited to hold classes and is in a more convenient and centralized location with access to the interstate, enabling members to come from all over.

Red Mountain Makers is a collective where individuals engage in scientific and artistic research, experimentation and education. The objective is to provide a workspace and community of peers and project-based education related to technology and artistic expression.

The organization started as a monthly rotating meeting in people’s garages. It eventually saved enough money to gets its first location in Crestwood.

In 2020, Red Mountain Makers shifted its focus to making shields and other medically aligned equipment to distribute across the state at the beginning of the pandemic on a non-profit basis.
