Austin-based cloud cost management startup DigitalEx Inc. said April 4 it has raised $2 million in pre-seed funding. The investment was led by Clutch VC, with participation by Knoll Ventures, Amplify LA, Comeback Capital and Service Provider Capital. The startup, founded by Safi Siddiqui and Darmawan Suwirya and led by CEO Sundeep Goel, said the funding will be channeled largely to its flagship cloud management platform, CloudCompare.

SweatPals won an April 4 pitch competition in Boulder, Colorado, and will split the $500,000 top prize with another startup, Colorado Inno reported. Co-founders Salar Shahini and Mandi Zhou launched the Austin-based company less than a year ago as a social network for people to connect through fitness. Their mobile application allows people to find fitness groups and classes, message people and share their workouts.

They say they've already garnered 8,000 users in Austin and generated $12,000 in revenue and that they may expand to Miami next using the money from their win.

The other winner at the Barnburner event hosted by Sweater Ventures was Chicago-based Grapefruit Health, developer of a staffing platform for health care.

On the VC firm side, a new firm called Ensemble announced its formation and $100 million in initial funding. The firm said it would use its debut fund to back early-stage startups in Austin and beyond. It already has invested in 3D-printing startup Icon and insurance-technology startup Spt. The firm is led by Managing Partners Collin West and Conrad Shang, along with Head of Data Science Gopinath Sundaramurthy.
