Introducing Love.Life, new startup from former Whole Foods CEOs John Mackey and Walter Robb
John Mackey retired in September as CEO of Whole Foods, where he was co-founder. Now he has a new startup focused on wellness and healthy living.

It’s been almost half a year since we told readers about a new Austin company called Healthy America LLC.

At the time, we reported that the company had raised $30.9 million in equity funding. But this was one case where the big names drew more interest than the big money. The startup is led by a trio of former Whole Foods leaders: Whole Foods co-founder and CEO John Mackey, former Whole Foods co-CEO Walter Robb and Betsy Foster, a former senior vice president at the company.

Now we know that the company is doing business as Love.Life, and it’s focused on using food, holistic medical care and precision wellness therapies to help people live healthier lives. And on March 21, it announced it acquired Plant Based TeleHealth Inc, a Colorado-based telemedicine service that focuses on preventing and reversing chronic diseases through lifestyle medicine.

The acquisition has led to the creation of Love.Life Telehealth, a virtual medical service that helps patients with chronic conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, autoimmune diseases and digestive issues. The telehealth service uses video conferencing and patient portal technologies to let patients book appointments with licensed physicians in all 50 states.

Anthony Masiello, co-founder and former CEO of Plant Based TeleHealth, has joined the executive team of Love.Life. We don’t know a whole lot more about Love.Life’s broader plans, although Mackey noted that the company will launch a comprehensive medical offering at physical locations, set to start opening in 2024. Bloomberg reported last year that the company wanted to open a “chain of plant-based restaurants and wellness centers.”
