Accounting software startup LeaseQuery added a Goldman Sachs veteran to its leadership team.

The Atlanta-based company said Tuesday it hired Justin Smith as its chief financial officer. Jim FitzGibbons, LeaseQuery's previous CFO, left the company last week, according to Joe Schab, LeaseQuery's president and chief operating officer.

Smith spent 10 years at Goldman Sachs Group Inc., most recently as senior vice president on the global investment banking firm's technology investment banking team, according to his LinkedIn. In that role, he helped lead the firm’s expansion into the Southeast, according to a LeaseQuery news release. As a member of the technology, media, and telecom coverage group, he focused on a range of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, equity offerings, debt financings and other strategic alternatives, according to the release.

Schab said in the release that Smith's background in finance and technology should help the company's continued growth through "product innovation, expanding our deeply loyal customer base and establishing new channel partnerships."

Smith, who holds a bachelor's degree in molecular neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University and an MBA in finance from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, was a founding advisory board member at Engage Ventures, an Atlanta-based venture capital fund, where he sat on the investment selection committee.

Founded in 2011, LeaseQuery provides software aimed at eliminating mistakes in lease accounting — a sector expected to grow to $2.4 trillion by 2026, according to market research firm The Business Research Co.

The startup, which was named one of Technology Association of Georgia's 40 most innovative companies, went on a hiring spree in 2022 after seeing "record growth," surpassing 3,500 customers. The 2022 Inc. 5000 list said LeaseQuery has a 304% revenue growth between 2018 and 2021.

LeaseQuery raised a $40 million Series A round in November of 2019 from Goldman Sachs.
