An Atlanta mobile data startup based in Atlanta Tech Village raised a $1.65 million pre-seed round

Eskuad is a mobile platform that does not need internet access to function. That allows fieldworkers, such as those in construction or agriculture, to collect data and generate reports digitally instead of filling out paperwork.

Inside the deal: Outlander VC, a venture capital firm that moved from Los Angeles to Atlanta a few years ago, led the round. Chilean family office Mis Inversiones, Behind Genius Ventures, C2 Ventures and angel investors also participated.

Why it matters: Eskuad’s product could help companies that use fieldworkers save money and increase productivity. The early investment by Outlander is an example of the Atlanta technology ecosystem at work — a local capital provider supporting a local startup.

What’s next: The investment has allowed Eskuad to hire four new employees, a spokesperson said. The company plans to hire one or two more, which would bring its workforce to about 16 full-time employees and contractors. The funding will also allow Eskuad to expand its artificial intelligence capabilities within the platform and expand its customer base.

About the company: Max Echeverria founded Eskuad in Chile and moved to Atlanta to expand its market reach. The startup has participated in Google for Startups’ Founder Academy and Latino Founders Fund, Techstars and Tampa Bay Wave.

What they’re saying: "[The Eskuad team is] providing tangible value to hundreds of field workers today, and we see that scaling to hundreds of thousands in the near future,” said Blaine Davis, partner at Outlander who joined Eskuad’s board.
