Photos: Meow Wolf gives update, look inside its first Texas exhibition

Meow Wolf is set to open its first exhibition in Texas this month. Ahead of that site's launch, the Santa Fe-based immersive art and entertainment company shared early installation photos.

Meow Wolf Grapevine is scheduled to open July 14. Located inside the Grapevine Mills Mall in the northwest Dallas suburb, general admission tickets are currently on sale for $50.

The exhibition is called "The Real Unreal," and Meow Wolf announced its summer opening in January. It could hire more than 150 people, which is the first of two planned in the Lone Star State.

The other is located in Houston's Fifth Ward historic district. Meow Wolf broke ground on that exhibition in late May.

Once open, these two Texas sites will join Meow Wolf's three other exhibits in Santa Fe, Denver and Las Vegas.

"The Real Unreal has been a project years in the making," Kelly Schwartz, the general manager of Meow Wolf Grapevine, said in a statement to Albuquerque Business First. "This massive collaborative project is slated to open on July 14, and we couldn't be more excited to bring Meow Wolf to Texas this summer."

Meow Wolf Grapevine will be 29,000 square feet and includes space for local vendors and retail shops, as well as a live performance venue for "local and up-and-coming musical acts" and community events, the company said on its website. It'll also feature over 30 Texas-based collaborating artists that will construct unique rooms throughout the installation.

"I can't wait to see the spark of joy in our first visitors' eyes as they enter the exhibition," Schwartz said in a statement to Business First. "Meow Wolf Grapevine will be such a vibrant addition to the north Texas community and getting to see all of our hard work culminate to our first visitors' experience will be unforgettable."

Plans for other Meow Wolf exhibitions in Phoenix and Washington, D.C., stalled out prior to the arrival of its new CEO, Jose Tolosa, who took over in January 2022. The company's three existing locations have entertained a combined three million visitors.

Shortly after announcing plans to open the Grapevine exhibition this summer, Meow Wolf brought on three new people to its executive team. Tolosa told Business First that Meow Wolf is "focused on hiring high-caliber, highly experienced individuals with an appreciation for what Meow Wolf is."

"We're pursuing growth that is consistent with whatever exists already," Tolosa also told Business First at the time. "It's additive and highly synergistic."
