Brandy Willett is the regional director of the Small Business Development Center at Wichita State University. She helps advise small businesses from idea phase all the way to starting the business and then to ways they can improve.

She is one of six individuals featured in the WBJ's 2024 Business Startup Guide as someone well-connected within Wichita's entrepreneurial ecosystem, offering up space and mentorship for small business leaders who are stepping onto the scene.

What Willett says about...

A tip for starting a business: Ask questions and use local information. It's really hard if you try to use information from out of state.

A new business in Wichita readers should know about: We honored our emerging businesses this year: Utopia Modern Salon Suites, 2024 SBDC Emerging Small Business of the Year; Chase Me If You Can Productions LLC, 2024 Existing Small Business of the Year; Dibs Boat and RV Storage, SBDC, Emerging Small Business of the Year.

The biggest hurdle facing startups in 2024: Interest rates are very high. They are prohibitive for small businesses to get started.

Agencies readers should know about when they want to start a business: We're a really good place to start. Our directive is to train, advise and connect.
