Three Wichita State University students will share nearly $40,000 in awards for their winning entries in WSU FirePoint Innovation Center's first Student Practical Architecting Challenge.
The nine-month competition invites students to create innovations for future-ready, modular and adaptable software systems to support the Department of Defense's Modular Open Systems Architecture initiative.
Murphy Ownbey and Greg Heiman teamed up to win the competition, and Aiden McGillivray finished second. All three, who finished at the top of more than 50 teams competing, were recognized in Atlanta last week at the MOSA Industry & Government Summit & Expo.
Ownbey and Heiman, founders of software consulting company Ownheim Consulting, have received training through work with Koch Industries, SpaceX and Garmin.
The Student Practical Architecting Challenge is a FirePoint initiative to "accelerate joint technology development, transfer and commercialization, and support STEM-based workforce development by partnering with DEVCOM, universities, industry and other government organizations."
