Wichita State University this week unveiled a new program it hopes helps turn more ideas from the university community into viable commercial enterprises.

The school’s office of technology transfer and commercialization has started a matchmaking program that will connect entrepreneurs with ideas and technologies that can subsequently be taken to the market.

The technologies in development that entrepreneurs can take on are available online and includes things like new software for computer-aided design (CAD) and automated removal of foreign object debris (FOD) from aircraft.

The school says entrepreneurs interested in marketing its technologies need to complete the application process by April 24.

Those chosen as finalists will eventually pitch their marketing plan to regional and national judges.

The selected winner for each technology will be given a royalty-free licensing deal for six months, as well as continued support from WSU and the eventual chance for a full commercial license.

The program is being funded in part by funds from a $750,000 grant from the U.S. Economic Development Coalition that was awarded to Wichita earlier this year.
