A two-day inventor competition accompanied by a TV documentary series is coming to Wichita State University.

The university on Wednesday announced that Koch Industries Inc. has helped land a Make48 contest to be held June 24-26 at GoCreate, a Koch collaborative and makerspace on the Innovation Campus at WSU.

In the same format seen on the PBS Make48 documentary, eight local teams will be given just 48 hours to take an idea from design to prototype — including a promotional video and sales sheet — to be presented to a panel of judges.

The winning team will move on to the national Make48 competition next March, where it could win up to $10,000.

As the challenge sponsor for the event, Wichita-based Koch will help define the teams’ objectives for the contest.

“We are delighted Make48 is supporting Wichita entrepreneurs who are creating innovative solutions to the most pressing problems in our city," said Meredith Olson, vice president of community affairs for Koch Industries. “GoCreate provides the perfect environment for community members of all backgrounds to develop an entrepreneurial mindset.”

Entry applications are now available online and will remain open through April 16.
