The federal contracting division of Cherokee Nation Businesses — which represents the Native American's tribe's business interests —  has expanded into new office space in Tysons.

Cherokee Federal formally moved into 20,000 square feet at 8180 Greensboro Drive in Greensboro Park development on Aug. 6 and held an opening celebratory event on Aug. 9. It expects 100 people will work out of the site.

The company's client base spans federal agencies working in national security, health solutions, the military and humanitarian relief efforts. It has six other locations across the region that collectively employ about 300 people.

Cherokee Federal President Steven Bilby told me Monday that the new location offers more amenities for employees and will serve as a more centralized place to meet its clients.

The office replaces its Crystal City location as well as the offices it used following its March 2023 acquisition of Criterion Systems, a cybersecurity firm that also called Tysons home. That deal followed Cherokee Federal's November 2021 acquisition of Preting Consulting, an Alexandria cybersecurity firm that primarily served U.S. military agencies with a workforce of 150 people.

"This is another exciting step forward for our organization," Bilby said. "We are eager to continue growing our talented workforce, suite of robust service offerings and overall presence in our nation’s capital."

Bilby said the company generates "north of $1 billion" in annual revenue, which he said has climbed by 16% year-over-year on average for several straight years. Cherokee Federal employs 5,000 workers across the country. Its parent company, Cherokee Nation Businesses, counts 11,000 people on its payrolls.

He expects the company to continue adding to its local workforce to meet demand and shared that the lease agreement comes with options to expand the space if needed.

In addition to new amenities for its employees, like a wellness room and collaboration spaces, Cherokee Federal's new office also includes a dedicated innovation area where it expects to further develop technologies like artificial intelligence.
