Trident Systems, a Fairfax-based technology and aerospace government contractor, opened a $3.7 million production location this week that will create about 50 high-tech jobs as it works to make space electronic systems for the federal government.

The production site is located at an office park at 3810 Concorde Parkway in Chantilly near Dulles International Airport.

Diane Hockenberry, a spokesperson for Arizona-based LightRidge Solutions, which acquired Trident Systems in July 2023, told me in an email that 12 employees are currently working at the new facility.

She said Trident employs 172 workers total between the new facility and its headquarters on Fairfax Boulevard. The company also maintains an advanced development center in Concord, New Hampshire.

"We are excited to expand our presence in Virginia supporting our nation's critical space needs," Lorin Hattrup, general manager of Trident Systems, said in a prepared statement. "Our new production facility will allow us to support a range of products on rapid timelines while maintaining affordability."

Trident stands to receive some financial assistance through the Virginia Economic Development Partnership’s Virginia Jobs Investment Program should certain job creation goals be met. VEDP worked with the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority on the Trident expansion, per a release.

Founded in 1985, Trident works with various arms of the federal government on the building and maintaining of space-based electronic systems. It also develops command-and-control systems that are deployed in war zones and those that are used for the protection of the National Capital Region.
