Office Envy: Inside Cybrary's Sleek New Maryland Digs

Cybrary was growing at a fast clip, and badly needed some space for new desks.

The 3-year-old maker of a cybersecurity training platform was squeezing employees into a tight office space in Greenbelt, Md., last year, when CEO Ralph Sita decided it was time to upgrade.

"We knew we needed to move and needed to find some space," he said. "And not just a big office – it would be cool."

He and Cybrary found that cool factor down the road in College Park, where in April it moved into a newly built 11,000-square-foot space in the University of Maryland's Discovery District. The development is partnering with businesses and the university to attract and foster tech talent.

The new headquarters' modern space is accented by reclaimed barn wood and white brick walls, and its 61 employees group around its open workstations and lines of desks. Lounge spaces are scattered around the open kitchen, which hosts a catered lunch twice a week.

Cybrary also installed double doors that lead out to a patio overlooking the area's walking trails, equipped with contemporary deck furniture and a large canopy for rainy days.

The office holds six conference rooms themed around hackers and movies, and also has a full production studio for videos and podcasts. It has capacity for 90 employees.

Sita said the firm's headcount will hit 75 by yearend, with plans for 200 by the middle of next year. With that in mind, Cybrary is building out a 25,000-square-foot space nearby where it will move its headquarters in July – making this office only enviable for a year.
