Sequoia Inc., a software development and engineering services company based out of Reston, has been ranked on Inc.’s list of fastest-growing private companies for a third consecutive year.

The company has gained the attention of Inc., job-hunters and clients for its 97 percent increase in employees in the last three years. Sequoia’s revenue has nearly doubled in the same timeframe.

CEO Richard Stroupe said staying competitive and finding candidates for Sequoia’s jobs has been keeping the company thriving.

“Our biggest challenge to date is just finding the right candidates,” Stroupe said. “It’s a very tight market for individuals who perform the services that we have. It’s a very competitive space.”

In February, the company launched SEQNet, a blockchain-based platform that allows government agencies to create, test and deploy smart contracts. The software automates the logging of agreements, processes, tasks and payments in a digital record.

Sequoia has also partnered with D.C.-area venture capital firm Blu Venture Investors and Virginia-based nonprofit science organization Noblis for the project, which aims to build a blockchain ecosystem for the public sector.

"SEQNet has the potential to modernize U.S. government operations, particularly in the defense and intelligence communities," Stroupe said in a statement. "Government organizations interact with hundreds of suppliers, vendors, and other parties in their daily operations. Blockchain technology can automate those transactions and ensure they're performed more efficiently and securely – at lower cost."

Stroupe attributes his company’s success with its corporate culture: “It’s more than how often you have a party,” he said. Building lasting relationships with clients also has helped bring more people to the company.

“We’re incredibly proud of the achievement and I think it’s a testament to the services we provide our clients and our employees.”

Sequoia ranked 3,766 this year on Inc.’s list, climbing 101 spots from last year. The company now has 41 employees with continued plans to expand.
