Everyone loves a pizza party, especially on Pi Day. And &pizza took Pi Day to the next level by continuing its annual tradition of hosting free weddings in its Chinatown location.

&pizza also partnered with other D.C. companies to make the magic happen. UrbanStems provided bouquets and decor, Milk Bar designed wedding cakes, and Lyft provided rides to and from the ceremonies.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for the couples,” said Sam Blum, the guest experience manager at &pizza. “If they show up with a marriage license, we can pretty much take care of everything else.”

&pizza began hosting weddings and vow renewals in 2015 when a couple wanted to have their wedding at the U Street location. The company decided to turn it into an annual event to celebrate love and unity, and, so far, &pizza has completed dozens of weddings at locations in New York, D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia.

The D.C.- based company opens its applications for the marriages and vow renewals in mid-January — and they received more than 100 applications this year. To apply, couples answer a series of questions that include why they want to get married at &pizza and how they fell in love. In the weeks leading up to Pi Day, &pizza team members are ordained to officiate the marriages. In the weeks leading up to Pi Day, &pizza team members are ordained to officiate the marriages.

“We really try to customize the experience for every wedding,” Blum said. “Whether that means playing a certain song for the newlyweds, making unique pizzas, or having a specific set up for the ceremony, it’s all about making this day special.”

Friends and families of the newlyweds are encouraged to attend the ceremonies.

The company hopes its Pi Day event will continue to grow each year with partnerships and the number of wedding ceremonies.
