Breezio is a cloud-based community platform that enables organizations to build online groups for learning and sharing ideas. Users at various stages in their careers can lean on each other for tips and feedback on their work.
“Breezio tries to bring communities together in a learning context. The idea of helping to learn and learning to help is really at our core,” Breezio CEO Karen McCord said. “We offer people the opportunity to meet someone who is further along in their career or an expert in their area.”
Through chats during video sessions, live-presence and its “Happening Now” feature, Breezio gives communities a place to create and share content. “Happening Now” lets users see where other users are and what content they are working on. The feature is a great way for people to introduce themselves to other users in their community. Users can even host networking events on the platform.
After years of working in collaborative software development, Co-Founders Shahab Kaviani and Siavash Mahmoudian created Breezio as a way for communities to create useful, engaging content. Mahmoudian now serves as Breezio’s CTO.
This isn’t McCord’s first startup rodeo. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, McCord joined a startup.
“I know for sure what it’s like to be at a startup and being on that rollercoaster ride,” said McCord, adding that her success at Breezio largely stems from her previous startup experience. “I know what it’s like to grow something from infancy.”
Breezio has been a huge success for the American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB). Together, ASPB and Breezio created Plantae.org, an online community where users share scientific papers, write on forums and post videos.
“Having a little fun helps bring people together,” McCord said. “It’s amazing to see the amount of creativity and the way people came together to share their thoughts about their work and what they’re doing."
