Office Envy: Behind Contactually's Newly Designed Dupont Headquarters

It's been a full year since Washington, D.C. startup Contactually started the search for its new headquarters.

But finding the ideal spot is never easy. The company, which aims to make it easier for you to stay in touch with business contacts, put in offers at three different locations, and ultimately, still found themselves looking for a sublease in January — something, preferably, that was already built.

Finally, in April, Contactually signed a lease six days before they moved into their new spot in Dupont Circle at 19th and M Streets NW.

"We went from having a sort of brick and industrial space filled with old Ikea furniture to having a state of the art building and fancy white chairs and really nice amenities," said Corey Williams, Contactually's operations and facilities manager. "It was sort of a 180."

With the new space, Contactually can now fit up to 100 people — the ideal size for a 50-person startup that is looking to grow its headcount tremendously in the next year. In all, Contactually has raised $12 million in venture funding to date, including a $8 million Series A round in November 2015.

Williams said the 14,000 sq. ft. office has a panoramic view of Georgetown, Rosslyn and the monuments from its rooftop, and the office boasts floor-to-ceiling windows throughout. Contactually's new space came ready with some furniture left by previous tenant Metabiota, but that didn't stop them from putting their own company feel on the space.

"Like any good startup, we have a pretty good set up in the kitchen," Williams said. "We have a whole rack of snacks that anyone can dream of."

That list also includes a rotating beer tap and nitro cold brew. Oh, and don't forget the seven conference rooms, a wellness room, a fitness center and rooftop access.
