Women Who Code DC Celebrates 3rd Anniversary With Its First-Ever Startup Hackathon

Three years ago, Women Who Code DC was just getting off the ground. Today, the group's Meetup page is close to 6,000 members strong, the community has its own Slack group and it's about to host its first-ever Startup Hackathon this weekend.

The all-lady, two-day hackathon is designed to bridge the typical hackathon experience with the business aspects behind building a successful startup. Participants will learn how to market test their ideas while working on a coding project with a team of developers this weekend at The Iron Yard.

The weekend's events will culminate in a demo day-esque presentation from participants, which will kick off the official Women Who Code DC anniversary party Sunday night.

Of course, no hackathon would be complete without a roster of speakers to round it out. Following introductory pitches and team building the morning of day one, D.C. tech ladies such as upace founder Rachel Koretsky and Aleberry Creative founder Gira Wieczorek will speak to the group about various topics, from product inspiration and development to how to pitch investors.

"The hackathon is important to strengthen our female tech community in the city," Koretsky told DC Inno. "We need to support one another to continue to develop professionally and this event allows for the opportunity to come together to learn, discuss and collaborate."

The hackathon takes place Saturday to Sunday. There will be a celebration party, along with startup idea presentations, Sunday night.
