On Tuesday, Lanham, Md.-based edtech company 2U became the latest D.C.-area company to enter the podcast arena.
It's no shock that a company would start its own show—podcasting networks like Gimlet have literal creative agencies in-house to work on branded podcasts. Tinder has one. eBay is working on one.
2U's podcast is an extension of its Front Row publication, where the company highlights stories from the intersection of education and technology—naturally. The new show, called The Front Row, aims to be bi-weekly, featuring interviews from experts in the respected space.
"This isn’t a series about 2U, but rather how education and technology are accelerating progress," said 2U's Shirley Chow. "And it's a way for us to raise our profile and get our voice out there by associating 2U with content and subjects that matter to us such as the future workforce and education's role within it."
The show is over a year in the making, Chow said. In the first episode, the show deep dives into manufacturing and what it takes to move it forward in the future: "We'll introduce you to people who are taking the future into their own hands and creating hope for the sector," the show's narrator says at the top of the first show. And each subsequent episode will focus on a different sector, with the second episode deep diving into the future of aging, for instance.
"We're really fortunate at 2U to have access to so many experts through our network of university partners," Chow said.
