5 DC Sports Tech Innovations to Keep You on Track in 2017

Sticking to a New Year's resolution is pretty darn difficult, especially if that resolution involves trying to stick to a workout schedule in the midst of the cloudy, winter D.C. weather. But, in this case, tech is here to help. From the apps aimed at helping groups work out together to those that help you book your workout space, the D.C. technology community is filled with options for those will wellness-related resolutions.

Here's a list of some of the best options to keep you on track in 2017:  

Upace 

This app born out of American University Entrepreneurship Incubator by AU grad Rachel Koretsky lets students book spots at campus recreation centers. Upace has partnerships with close to 20 colleges and universities nationwide, and it was founded in 2014.

Sworkit

Sworkit, which gets it name from the phrase "Simply Work It," is a custom workout app that provides 5-to-60 minute yoga, pilates and stretching sessions for users without requiring equipment. With a library of over 170 exercise videos, the app is designed to let users create a playlist of desired trainings. The D.C.-based app was acquired in 2014 by fellow D.C. based sport tech company Nexercise, which almost closed a $1.5 million investment deal from Mark Cuban on Shark Tank until the two parties couldn't come to an agreement.

FitSnap

FitSnap is an app to use after your workout. The photo-editing and sharing platform lets you add workout stats as a filter to your photos as a way of creating some motivation on your social media accounts. The company was founded in 2013 by D.C.-based Bill Rollins, who previously worked as the Chief Technology Officer at Surprise Ride.

TeamBuildr

Working out in a group or on a team? TeamBuildr lets athletes coordinate their workouts, and sessions are customizable by sport, player and position. With a starting price at $500 a year per subscription, it is designed with teams in mind. The Landover, Md.-based company was founded in October 2015.

LynxFit Pivot

LynxFit is designed for fitness coaches. Trainers can design and publish workout plans on the platform and push them onto smart fitness hardware devices so that users can find them. The Alexandria, Va.-based company was founded in 2013.
