Social Tables Hires Local VC as COO

Washington, D.C.-based event software startup Social Tables has hired local venture capitalist Kiran Hebbar as its new chief operating officer. Hebbar is joining Social Tables after a decade as general partner at Vienna, Va.-based Valhalla Partners, and is still going to be involved as a partner at Valhalla.

"I was introduced to Kiran by our partner from Bessemer, Alex Ferrara, more than a year ago," Social Tables founder and CEO Dan Berger wrote in an email to DC Inno. "We kept in touch and when we started a CFO search three months ago, Kiran and I reconnected by happenstance. It was perfect timing. He joined us in consulting role as interim CFO and did an absolutely fabulous job. We loved working with him and saw immediate impact."

The search for a CFO began when Social Tables closed a $13 million funding round led by Baltimore venture capital firm QuestMark Partners in October. The money is going toward building out the team and improving the products Social Tables offers. The fourth version Diagram, the company's main diagramming software, is coming out in January, and will be joined by other new features and products in the months that follow.

"We are really excited to be able to provide our 4,000+ customers new solutions, which we are tying together into an event management suite," Berger said. "As our COO, [Hebbar] will oversee finance, engineering, and product. It's a perfect role for him because of his background as a successful VC and former software engineer-turned-product manager."

Hebbar won't be the newest team member for long. Social Tables is hiring up a storm to add to its around 120 employees. In particular, the company is looking to add a chief revenue office and heads for the sales and customer success departments. The demand for Social Tables and its services are only growing, both as a company and as the industry grows by leaps and bounds in D.C. which has become something of an event tech hub.
