If you've been annoyed by trying to figure out the best way to get around during the Metro's SafeTrack program, local transportation dashboard startup TransitScreen has you covered. And real-time updates to the delays and shutdowns on the Metro are just one of the many ways TransitScreen is making cities smarter, as COO Ryan Croft explains on this week's DC Inno Beat podcast.

TransitScreen uses digital screens that connect to a software platform that cities can use to help inform people about transportation options and other important information. The screens are used in public buildings, coffee shops, high-rise apartment buildings and out in the street. They're also integrated into a growing number of digital jukeboxes in bars, with the goal by early 2017 of having 10,000 locations with TransitScreen's tech across 10 countries, according to Croft.

But, there's more to smart cities than just better knowledge of transit times. Ryan, Sam and I explore what those permutations include, like self-driving cars, buildings that can talk to vehicles and even smarter parking meters. You can hear all that, plus our latest beer evaluation and the biggest news in D.C. innovation on iTunes or on SoundCloud below.
