Virginia Gets a Taste for Galley's Menu

Washington, D.C.-based food delivery startup Galley will be bringing food to more people than ever as it expands its service area.

New neighborhoods in both Alexandria and Arlington will be able to order the 600 to 800 calorie meals sourced from local ingredients. The new neighborhoods include Crystal City and Cherrydale in Arlington and Old Town and Arlandi in Alexandria.

"We've been getting a lot of demand from Virginia," Galley's head of sales Nick Heyd told DC Inno in an interview. "That's what we're responding to."

The startup started expanding into Northern Virginia back in March, and interest has stayed high, Heyd said. Assuming that there's more orders coming in, the next step would be to fill in the gap in the map between Arlington and Alexandria, with potential expansion in other directions too.

The general standard for Galley of four or five menu options at $13 to $16 is staying the same. The frequent menu changes, from day-to-day as well as seasonally, helps draw repeat customers. To keep those customers happy Galley is expanding in space as well as time, at least for some of its users. In the area between Georgetown and Chinatown, there will be a new 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. delivery window, earlier than the previous starting time for dinner delivery.

"There are a lot of government workers who might be leaving work right at five and want to get their dinner [before they leave," Heyd said. "That customer can order earlier now."
