We're Profiling 75 of the Most Innovative People in DC

Often, when I describe to people what DC Inno covers, I find myself needing to distinguish between "tech" and "innovation." The assumption is generally that we are a tech publication, but our focus extends beyond that. Yes, the tech industry is more broad than it ever has been, as new technology creeps into every corner of our economy. But while technology applies to a process, innovation is a way of thinking like others haven't before.

"The umbrella of innovation is a broad one," has become a standby line in my elevator pitch for DC Inno.

In our opinion, a brewery converting to solar power, a creative leader advancing an initiative to promote locally made goods or the architect designing the District's coolest offices are all innovative in their own, important ways. From app developers, to food entrepreneurs, craft brewers, marketing pioneers and venture capitalists, DC is home to innovators across all industries.

Today, as the authority on local innovation in Washington, DC Inno is launching our DC Innovators series. Over the next several months, we will profile 75 local figures who are thinking differently in their respective fields and who are models for the success and future potential of DC's innovation economy.

These 75 individuals will be included in the 150 nominees for our annual 50 on Fire awards, being held this year on December 1st. We have a number of ideas to start the series, but we also want to hear from you. Who do you think should make the list? You can tell us here.
