Under Armour's billion dollar digital health bet
  • Under Armour's immense success in making athletic wear brings it about $4 billion in revenue a year, but CEO Kevin Plank has spent almost $1 billion to conquer digital health as well. Under Armour has a 150-million person strong digital health user base and Plank thinks its the key to getting ahead of Nike's $30 billion in revenue a year.
2U's president retires
  • Major edtech firm 2U's president Rob Cohen is retiring. Former deputy secretary of education Jim Shelton will succeed Cohen. Shelton's been at 2U since last year.
Hot policy at CES
  • Policy may not be as eye-catching as a drone or new VR device, but the Consumer Electronics Show is not neglecting the policy issues surrounding cutting-edge tech, and setting the tone for the discussion for possibly the whole year. Whether its drones, the Internet of Things or wearable health tech, CES is making sure to bring some of the key decision makers to Las Vegas to talk about them as I explain in my roundup of the policy events.
DC's new open-source data
  • Mayor Bowser wants to make it a little easier for you to find out how D.C.'s economy is doing and has launched an open-source economic data dashboard. Though it was initially developed in-house, any enterprising developers who would like to help build out the site are encouraged to contribute through GitHub.
