Net neutrality goes to court today
  • Net neutrality is heading to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit on Fridayas the FCC is once again preparing to defend its regulations against Internet service providers and other companies that allege the rules go beyond the agency's remit. That was what killed the earlier version of the rules, but this time, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler has expressed confidence that the rules will survive the courts. Regardless of the outcome in this case, it's almost certain that the Supreme Court will have to weigh in.
LiveSafe raises $4 million and gets a new CEO
  • LiveSafe, developer of a safety and security app, has raised $4 million from IAC and Hearst Ventures. The money will be used to grow new verticals and get new clients and comes with the news that Gravy co-founder Carolyn Parent will be the new CEO. Read more in Chris Bing's story here.

Is Uber worth $62.5 billion?
  • Uber is making another play for global dominance, with plans to raise as much as $2.1 billion in a new funding round. The money puts Uber at a valuation of about $62.5 billion, a truly staggering number. With new countries and new programs like UberEATS, the company needs new capital to fuel its astonishing growth rate. But it probably won't have trouble getting investors to jump on-board as the brand grows ever more valuable. Read more from Bloomberg here.
Video game lobbying executes a combo
  • Internet Association Director of Communications and Creative Strategies Nika Nour announced this week that she has taken a new position as Director of Federal Government Affairs with the Entertainment Software Association. Nour, who has been with the IA since the beginning, will share her new role with Melissa Foxman, formerly Executive Director of the Women’s High-Tech Coalition and Kevin O’Hanlon, who is being promoted from within the ESA. The news suggests the ESA is planning to build up its presence on Capitol Hill, a smart move as new virtual reality and other technology bring electronic entertainment into new realms of uncertain regulation.
