OrderUp deal fetched $69M from Groupon

Groupon paid $69 million in cash to acquire OrderUp, a Baltimore food delivery startup whose backers included Revolution Ventures, in July, according to a Groupon SEC filing. The deal could include another $20 million "subject to the achievement of specified financial metrics and other conditions," the filing says. Revolution Ventures had led a $7 million Series A for OrderUp in August 2014. — Kyle Alspach

PayPal buys the Obama campaign CTO's startup

PayPal has acquired the mobile shopping app developer created by the CTO of President Obama's 2012 campaign. Harper Reed founded Modest only six months ago as a tool to help stores build mobile shopping apps. Now PayPal has picked it up for an undisclosed amount, a deal Reed said fits his goals for extending the Modest's currently limited reach. Find out more in PayPal's announcement here.
