Monday, August 17

Event: DC Nightowls Coworking @ 1776

Location: 1776, 12th floor, 1133 15th St NW, Washington, D.C. Date/Time: Monday, August 17, from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Price: Free

The D.C. Nightowls are at it again. And 1776 is hosting the ever-growing, late-night co-working event that attracts local entrepreneurs and developers. If you plan on burning the midnight oil on Monday and want to join some similar-minded folks then come out to the event. This event provides guests with a free, high quality working space (via 1776) and an opportunity to network with others in a casual environment. There’s already 72 people RSVP’d for the Monday night session.

Tuesday, August 18

Event: Maptime DC Project Night

Location: WeWork Dupont Circle (10th Floor), 1875 Connecticut Avenue NW , Washington, D.C. Date/Time: Tuesday, August 18, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Price: Free

If you’ve heard (or read) about mapping/location technology development and wanted to learn more, then Tuesday’s Maptime event is a perfect introduction. Hosted by WeWork, the event will take place in the company’s sprawling Dupont Circle open-office space. “Our mission is to open the doors of cartographic possibility to anyone interested by creating a time and space for collaborative learning, exploration, and map creation using mapping tools and technologies,” the event organizer writes. While this is a meet up for D.C.’s geo/map development community, beginners and newcomers are openly encouraged to attend. Be sure to bring a laptop to experiment with the technology.

Wednesday, August 19

Event: DC TechBreakfast—First Mile Geo, Loople Mobile, LLC, GemShelf, Xometry

Location: Washington DC Economic Partnership, 1495 F Street, NW, Washington, D.C. Date/Time: Wednesday, August 19, begins at 8:00 a.m. Price: Free

In this month’s D.C. TechBreakfast event, a number of local startups will be presenting/pitching their businesses to guests. The event will take place at the DC Economic Partnership, a non-profit organization working to facilitate economic development in the District. It’s a casual morning meet up, with coffee and bagels, that hopes to introduce new businesses and entrepreneurs with the local tech community. There will be a networking period both before and after the presentations. In Wednesday’s event, D.C.-area companies First Mile Geo, Loople Mobile, GemShelf and Xometry will be presenting.

Event: Mobile Tech Developers (Mobile DC) Monthly Social Event/Mixer

Location: World of Beer, 901 N Glebe Rd, Arlington, Va. Date/Time: Wednesday, August 19, begins at 6:30 p.m. Price: Free

Mobile DC has decided to throw a large networking event that brings together the area’s many designers, developers, UX experts, entrepreneurs, startup founders, game designers, enterprise mobility experts and recruiters. Mobile DC group encompasses a community of local mobile application developers. Their events usually focus on topics related to “keeping up with technology, following new trends, finding collaborators and investors for new or ongoing projects.” Wednesday's event provides a good opportunity for coders at any skill level to meet one another and talk about some of the app innovation thats occurring in the area.

Thursday, August 20

Event: Maryland Technology Connection Information Session

Location: Workforce Development Center at the Liberty Center (CCBC Building), 3637 Offutt Road, Randallstown, Md. Date/Time: Thursday, August 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Price: Free

The MD Tech Connection is a grant-funded program that aims to connect unemployed professionals with work in the tech sector via qualified/registers employers currently looking for candidates. At times, this could mean training that’s provided by employers and the program. The event is an informational session that will help provide application and networking opportunities to those that are interesting in joining the program. Event: Women Who Code (WWC) hosted Resume and Job Hunting Workshop

Location: Cove, 1817 M St NW, Washington, D.C. Date/Time: Thursday, August 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Price: Free

With 52 members already RSVP’d for the event, WWC is holding a large resume workshop and job hunting event for any local female professionals looking to improve their chances of landing a great job. Hosted at the cove co-working space in D.C., the event organizer, Anne Glazer, writes, “We [will] spend time going over how to write a great resume, practice and then I will leave time for reviews. Please bring a hard copy of your resume.” Glazer is currently a human resources associate at Capital One. She was previously a legal assistant at Pierson & Strachan P.C., a law firm that specializes in real estate, land use and business law, among other things.
