Here's our pick of the best startup and tech networking events in the D.C. area to check out this week.

Monday, August 10

Event: First Timer's Front End Hack Night hosted by Women Who Code

Location: iStrategyLabs, 641 S Street NW, Floor 1, Washington, D.C. Date/Time: Monday, August 10, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Price: Free

Are you a female tech enthusiast who would like to learn front end coding, to create awesome websites and learn what goes behind the design of major software products? Then head on over to ISL for this event by Women Who Code. “Front End Hack Night (FEHN) is a study group where women can come together and help each others learn and understand web development. We welcome devs of all levels and encourage those with more experience to help out those that are just starting,” writes Women Who Code. Be sure to bring a laptop and be ready to set up around 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday, August 11

Event: Startup Leadership Program, Washington DC Chapter - Admissions Info Event

Location: cove, 1990 K Street NW, Washington, D.C. Date/Time: Tuesday, Aug. 11, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Price: RSVP necessary (Free). Limited Seats Available.

Startup Leadership Program (SLP) is hosting its 1st admissions informational event for its DC Chapter. Having already founded a number of chapters across 26 other cities, SLP is establishing a DC chapter and inviting applications for the class of 2016. SLP is a highly selective training program for innovators/entrepreneurs who aspire to be successful startup CEOs. More than 1,700 SLP fellows have founded over 1,000 companies and raised more than $450 million in capital through them. These companies include names like RunKeeper, IXIGO and Shareaholic. Come by, meet the fellows, learn about the program and the criteria to apply. Applicants can read more about the program on http://www.startupleadership.com. The deadline to apply to the program is Sept. 15. The curriculum for the program consists of simulations, game exercises, HBS case studies and direct individual feedback through a mix of successful entrepreneurs, VCs and other "specialists" hand-picked from the region.

Wednesday, August 12

Event: Startupland Global Film Premiere

Location: Capital One Bank, 1680 Capital One Drive, McLean, Va. Date/Time: Wednesday, August 12, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Price: $9 general admission

Startupland is a documentary film that portrays the journey of five startup CEOs in a 12-week tech accelerator program, where they’re working to translate ideas into promising companies before presenting to investors. The film “is a compass to guide you down the path of entrepreneurship and features the real stories of those that have taken action and walked the path of entrepreneurship,” Startupland writes. The premiere will take place at Capital One’s corporate office. In the documentary, a number of high-profile entrepreneurs and investors are interviewed, including former AOL President Steve Case and Esther Dyson, a board member for meetup.com. All proceeds will go to a local nonprofit called BUILD, which works to teach entrepreneurial skills to select high school students in underserved areas.

Event: How to Use Design Thinking -- The Summer Accelerator Series

Location: Capitol Post, 625 N. Washington Street, Suite 425, Alexandria, Va. Date/Time: Wednesday, August 12, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Price: Free

Presented by Tim Ogilvie, the CEO of Peer Insight, a business strategy consulting firm. This event focuses on design thinking combined with “lean startup methodology,” and is meant to be an educational information session. The summer accelerator series is hosted in partnership by The Capitol Post and BunkerLabs@DC. The 15-part series that takes place between July and September encompasses a number events that “center around entrepreneurship and transition, business administration, growth management, and government contracting, [which] will help you examine your career, business, and life from a new perspective,” BunkerLabs writes on its website.

Thursday, August 13

Event: Eastern Foundry Open House

Location: Eastern Foundry, 2011 Crystal Drive, Arlington, Va. Date/Time: Thursday, August 13, 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Price: Free

Eastern Foundry is a veteran-owned co-working space and accelerator for startups and small businesses in the federal procurement sector. For its open house, the organization is providing small plates and drinks as part of an opportunity to check out its space, while also getting in some networking. In addition, Eastern Foundry will be offering lower rates for its space to those who attend the open house and sign a lease by Sept. 1.

Event: Secure Application Development Industry Meetup

Location: Neuview 1, 21575 Ridgetop Circle, Sterling, Va. Date/Time: Thursday, August 13, 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Price: Free

Jacob Ewers, a longtime senior consultant at Cigital, and Anand Verumi, a former Javascript developer turned Web application security pro with Va.-based cybersecurity firm nVisium, have teamed up to lead an educational seminar regarding the development of secure applications. The pair will be discussing secure programming techniques, System Development Life Cycle (SDLC), static and dynamic code analysis and best practices in app dev. The organizers for the industry meet-up event encourages both beginners and experienced developers to attend.

Saturday, August 15

Event: DCVR Meetup group-SpaceVR LAUNCH PARTY

Location: Mellow Mushroom, 2436 18th Street NW, Washington, D.C. Date/Time: Saturday, August 15, 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Price: Free (Over 21, bar environment)

NYC-based SpaceVR, part of space technology startup accelerator program Empire Space Labs, will be launching a Kickstarter in D.C., Saturday, to fund the creation and transportation of a 360-degree, 3D, ultra-high-definition camera rig into space. A live launch party, which will be visited by the DCVR meet-up group, a local tech club focused on virtual reality, is being held this weekend to celebrate the start of SpaceVR’s live project. The camera rig hovering in space will first visit the International Space Station, where viewers will be able to see the station in 3D using a headset, smartphone, tablet or a computer. The state-of-the-art camera rig, called OVERVIEW ONE, will hope to “bring the deep, life-changing experience that all astronauts feel - the overview effect - to the average person,” Ryan Holmes, SpaceVR's CEO/founder, said in a statement.
