Monday, August 3
Event: NoVA iOS & Mobile DC present Help Build the "Ultimate Audio Player"

Two of the area's popular programming social clubs, Mobile DC and NoVA iOS Devs, are joining up to host an event where attendees will collaborate to build the "Ultimate Audio Player." The player will be constructed using Swift, a new programming language for Apple's iOS and OS X. New attendees are welcome. Having an understanding of object oriented concepts helps, but is not required, the event organizer writes. For a tutorial on Swift, watch this.

Event: Maryland Technology Connection Information Session
Location: Workforce Development Center at the Liberty Center (CCBC Building), 3637 Offutt Road, Randallstown, Md. Date/Time: Tuesday, Aug. 4, 9:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m. Price: Free
This is a state-funded event to help individuals who have been unemployed for a long period of time by introducing them to comprehensive tech related training. The informational session will be organized by a group of administrators from Workforce Development Center and Maryland Technology Connection. The program, introduced by the event, is intended to train participants for "middle-skilled" and "high-skilled" jobs in the IT and biosciences sectors. "Selected individuals will participate in job search techniques, services, and short-term occupational training anc career pathway training," the event coordinator writes. Event: Microsoft Senior Technical Evangelist Offers Mentorship at 1776 for visitors and members

Senior Technical Evangelist at Microsoft Shahed Chowdhuri is offering free 30-minute appointments for startup founders, tech enthusiasts, developers and programmers to help them master a number of Microsoft software tools. These specific developer tools and programs include Visual Studio (software development tools), Microsoft Azure (cloud services), app/game development, Kinect v2 coding and Windows 10 (PC, laptops, tablets, phones, IoT and even HoloLens applications). "Whenever I’m not traveling out of town, I will continue to visit the 1776 office during the day, at least once (maybe twice) a week, as time permits," Chowdhuri wrote on the event's Meetup page.

Event: NoVA TechBreakfast-August 2015 Edition

At this week's Northern Virginia TechBreakfast event, startups Cyber Timez, nVisium, Knockity and Aerial Array will be presenting their business plans and products to guests. This is a casual pitch-off where attendees will have time to socialize and sip coffee together while learning about a number of local early stage stage startups. Event: BizWorkshop presents How Growing Companies Can Minimize Their Taxes

Law firm Cherry Bekaert executive Ron Wainwright, who heads the firm's Federal Accounting Methods and Credits & Incentives practice, will be leading a discussion on how quickly growing startups can best minimize their tax liabilities. The event's organizer writes via a Meetup posting, "Are you a growing company looking for ways to save on taxes? Tax rules are constantly changing and their evolution challenges every company. Fortunately, with proper planning, companies can minimize their tax burden to free up cash flow for investment in growth." Event: WordPress Down & Dirty

In this informational session, administrators from Startup Central will help teach everything from basic to advanced WordPress tools and techniques to tech enthusiasts, business owners and startups founders, so that they can create better websites. "Everyone needs a creative edge to tell the story of their product or service. Get hands-on experience the the latest WordPress themes, plugins and frameworks," Startup Central writes. Friday's event is part of the SpeedStep WordPress series by Startup Central.
Event: WeWork Prohibition Party extravaganza (#WEWORKPROHIBITION)

WeWork DC is celebrating the return of beer to all it's District-based properties in grand style. There will be an open bar from 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm along with 1920's-themed cocktail drink specials throughout the night. WeWork previously provided beer free of charge to its tenants but in January DC's Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) made moves to force WeWork to attain a city license to continue the practice. Well now, its all been sorted out and WeWork DC wants everyone to celebrate. Come dressed in your best 1920's attire and drink a (or four) French 75.

Event: Small Biz Dev Hackathon 2015

Organized by AngelHack and Capital One, this event is for designers, developers and entrepreneurs who are interested in helping to solve the challenges faced by small-business owners. From the event page: "Small business experts and small business owners will be present to discuss the most universal barriers to success, developers will then get an opportunity to create relevant solutions that could make a lasting impact to thousands of small business owners. Winners of the hackathon will receive seed money and entry into AngelHack's HACKcelerator program to bring their hack to life."
