After Months of Seeking a Buyer, Speek Is Acquired By Jive Communications

Following months of rumors regarding their financial situation, D.C.-based enterprise communications software startup Speek has been acquired by Utah-based Jive Communications, WBJ reports. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed and the acquisition remains “deliberated.”

The news of the acquisition follows shortly after CTO Matthew Turner left Speek for Santa Monica, Calif.-based Science Mobile in May after two years at the company.

Sources in February told DC Inno that “the company is looking at an exit, and has found two potential acquisition suitors.” At the time, those two “suitors” in question were Boston-based companies HubSpot and LogMeIn. According to WBJ, Speek also had an acquisition deal with Silicon Valley telecom manufacturer Polycom fall through.

In late April, we learned that Speek had drastically reduced its workforce, leaving only a fraction of its original staff. “The layoffs were made with a potential acquisition in mind,” according to WBJ.

In an email sent yesterday to Speek users, Speek Director of Customer Success Whitney Santini wrote:

You might have noticed that speek.com is only intermittently available. Due to a situation beyond our control, you and your team will need to utilize different URLs to access your conference lines. Please use the following format: speekcall.com/[username] This will take you to your usual conference. There will be no change to the telephone number/PIN associated with your conference. You can also sign in at: www.speekcall.com. We are so sorry for the confusion and inconvenience, and we appreciate your understanding. We are working to restore access on the speek.com domain as quickly as possible. Please pass this on to your team, and stand by for further info from us at Speek.

It is unclear at this time if the email sent by Santini was related to the acquisition. Speek's website is currently down.
