DC Inno Approved: Tech Events to Know About This Week (6/22-6/28)



Here's what we've found for the best startup and tech networking events in the D.C. area to check out this week.

Monday

Event: DC Startup Pitch Night

Location: OpenGov Hub 1110 Vermont Avenue NW Suite 500 Washington DC Date/Time: Mon. June 22 — from 6:30PM to 8:30PM Price: Free

Startup entrepreneurs are invited to pitch their companies to a group of local technology enthusiasts so that they can get feedback and network with local professionals. Each presenter will be given five minutes to present and pitch their businesses. This event is designed to provide individuals with feedback and a possible network of collaborators and/or investors. It is a casual and open event for observers. If you would like to pitch your startup at the event it is recommended you contact the event coordinator found in the link (above).

Event: Real Talk, Real Solutions: A Panel On Solving Tech’s Diversity Issues

Location: General Assembly (GA) 1133 15th Street NW The Penthouse Washington DC Date/Time: Mon. June 22 — from 6:30PM – 8:30PM Price: Free

Monday’s conversational event on diversity in tech will be held at GA and will be led by a panel of distinguished speakers. The panel will bring together Opportunity@Work co-founder Tyra Mariani, DoL Presidential Innovation Fellow Tyrone Grandison, Stem Initiatives National Director Chad Womack and Capital One Founder Managing VP of Community Affairs Carolyn Berkowitz. “We all agree that education, careers, and opportunities in technology should not be limited to any one demographic or sector. At the same time, there are underrepresented groups who are struggling to break into the field … join us for this important conversation,” the GA events page reads.

Tuesday

Event: DC Nightowls Coworking + Creative Storytelling @ WeWork Wonder Bread

Location: WeWork Wonder Bread Factory 641 S street NW Washington DC Date/Time: Tues. June 23 — 8PM to 1:30AM Price: Free

Do you plan on working late on some innovative project this Tuesday and want to do so with a group of similar tech enthusiasts? Take the opportunity to use WeWork’s awesome resources and network with other local innovators with this NightOwl event. A short intro/networking session will followed by an interactive roundtable discussion led by Multimedia Mel’s Melanie Feliciano. “Bring your own project, your brilliant minds, and your willingness to help your peers,” the event’s Meetup page reads.

Wednesday

Event: Startup Grind DC Hosts Gov. Terry McAuliffe

Location: 1776 1133 15th Street NW 12th Floor Washington DC 20005 Date/Time: Wed. June 24 — from 6PM to 9PM Price: $25

Startup Grind, a global startup networking and educational events series that hosts monthly meetups, will be holding an awesome event that begins at 6 pm on Wednesday in the District. The event will center around a fireside chat interview with Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe about the local innovation scene. Brian Park, the Global Director of Startup Grind, will conduct the interview. The event will mix together casual networking, drinks and a deeper discussion on some hot technology trends.

Thursday

Event: DC Enterprise Tech - Product Demos

Location: Anant Labs 1010 Wisconsin Ave. NW #250 Washington DC Date/Time: Thurs, June 25 — starts at 6:30PM Price: Free

Much like the DC startup pitch night, this DC tech event will provide a venue for local entrepreneurs to introduce their products to a group of fellow entrepreneurs and tech enthusiasts. Thursday’s open event will help connect startup founders via an open networking opportunity and with valuable feedback regarding following their presentations. This is a collaborative and group-focused event for local entrepreneurs who are looking to bring a product to market.

Friday

Event: Potomac Tech Wire — Cybersecurity Outlook 2016

Location: McLean Hilton 7920 Jones Branch Drive McLean, Va. Date/Time: Fri. June 26 — from 8AM to 10AM Price: $79

The 2-hour morning event will consist of an interactive panel of top local cybersecurity executives from the mid-atlantic who will discuss tech issues in a conversational, roundtable setting. The discussion will take a look at growing cybersecurity technology trends and how they affect businesses, the eco-system for cybersecurity startups and where government funding meets it all. Registration and breakfast will begin at 7:30 am. The event’s keynote speaker is CrowdStrike CSO Shawn Henry, the former Executive Assistant Director of the FBI who was responsible for all worldwide cyber investigations.
