Mobomo, a Washington, D.C.-based digital strategy company, has acquired fellow District firm Intridea. Mobomo announced the acquisition of the web design studio on Thursday.

The move will mean meshing  two well recognized D.C. tech web/app design teams that work with major brands. Mobomo’s team has worked with Marriott hotels before, and is responsible for building NASA.gov and USASearch, a leading search engine platform used within the federal space. According to Intridea, the engine will eventually help “power every single query for the United States Government.”

Intridea CCO Jurgen Altziebler said in a statement, “Few agencies offer a best-in-class combination of user centered software design and engineering services. By bringing together Mobomo and Intridea, our teams will ship mission critical applications to our Fortune 500 clients.”

Financial details of the deal were not revealed along with the announcement.

“If you've read business news, received a paycheck, opened an email, had a baby, or attended a wedding, you've encountered Intridea's work,” said Marc Garrett, CEO of Intridea, in a statement.

At face value, the partnership makes sense if only based upon the distribution of two different clientele bases. While Mobomo is known for its work with a large group of federal agencies and within the general government space, Intridea on the other hand develops web products mostly for rising startups and large corporate customers like ADP, Citi and Mitsubishi.

Interestingly, the two companies also share a similar lineage. Barg Upender (current Mobomo chairman) co-founded Intridea with former Intridea board member David Naffis in 2007 and then started Mobomo less than half a mile away from Intridea’s current office in 2009.
