Here's what we've found for the best startup and tech networking events in the D.C. area to check out this week.

Tuesday

Event: DC Tech Meetup #37: Summer Celebration Edition

Location: Sauf Haus Bier Hall 1216 18th St NW Washington, DC Date/Time: Tues. June 16 — 6PM to 8:30PM Price: Free Restrictions: +21

This is a massive seasonal, happy hour-style networking opportunity located in nearby Dupont Circle at the Sauf Haus Bier Hall — which is advantageously positioned right next to Shake Shack. Meet other technologists and entrepreneurs for an evening of casual celebration regarding all of the hard work that is going on in D.C. tech right now. The first 200 guests get a free drink, so be sure to show up early. Also, big bonus: Eric and I will more than likely be there for little while. Come say hi and talk about some recent top headlines.

Event: DCMeetup1509 - Breaking in the Cyber Security Industry

Today’s event is about getting started in the cybersecurity industry. The event coordinators encourage individuals from all backgrounds and skill levels, whether they are students or long time security entrepreneurs, to join the conversation being held in Arlington. The cybersecurity industry is booming, and talented professionals are constantly being recruited by great local firms. Come check out what it takes to be a cybersecurity pro. The keynote speaker is Brandon Chen, a recent graduate from the University of Maryland with a bachelor’s of science in cybersecurity, who joined Cover6 Solutions. Chen will speak about how to get a great job and what it takes to succeed.

Wednesday

Event: IBM Watson Analytics Presentation and Live Demo

Location: 600 14th St NW Ste 300 Washington DC Date/Time: Wed. June 17 — 7PM Price: Free

IBM’s artificially intelligent super computer, the IBM Watson, will be on full display for a group of lucky tech enthusiasts. “IBM is now using Watson's cognitive thinking brains for analytics … Come join us for a live demo of IBM Watson Analytics.” IBM Watson Analytics is a cloud-based service for data analysis and visualization. Thursday

Event: D.C. Art Science Evening Rendezvous (DASER)

Location: Keck Center 500 Fifth St., N.W. Room 100 Washington DC Date/Time: Thurs. June 18 — from 6PM to 9PM Price: Free

Organized by the Cultural Programs of the National Academy of Sciences (CPNAS), the D.C. Art Science Evening Rendezvous (DASER) is a monthly discussion on art science projects. The event, and its many presentations, provides a look at the cultural environment of the region. CPNAS organizes exhibitions and special events to show the dynamic relationships between art, science and culture. Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m., and the first performance — which includes a theatrical reading of a passage from "Darwin at Down” — begins at 6:00 p.m. There will also be a book exchange session so that guests can network and trade literature.

Event: ATARC Federal Big Data Summit

On Thursday, get ready for a huge, educational, one-day symposium that will feature Big Data experts and a series of panel discussions regarding how industry and innovation. Speakers from the federal government and some of America’s top higher-education institutions will discuss data topics, including: Using Big Data and Analytics to Enhance Mission Capabilities; The Emergence of the Chief Data Officer; and Data and Analytics of the Future. Saturday

Event: DC SHARE Research Data Hackathon

Location: The Dupont Circle Hotel 1500 New Hampshire Ave NW Washington DC Date/Time: Sat. June 20 from 10AM to Sunday (June 21) 4PM Price: Free

Hosted by the Center for Open Science, SHARE is a collaboration of several national technology research associations. Saturday’s event is a research data hackathon where guests will be able to network with one another and work on building free, open source software. The idea is to “improve research discovery, access and reuse,” the event’s MeetUp page reads. This is a higher education initiative, research event and so those with previous background in coding are encouraged to attend. Further information can be found via the title link above.
