D.C.-based health tech startup  Kit Check, has four new patents that will give it the leverage for even more growth for its cloud-based software for processing hospital pharmacy kits and tracking medication.

It's the latest win for the 50 on Fire winner, which has raised $22.4 million, including $12 million just in January. The patents cover relate to the tracking software the company has already developed, but put a seal on the startup's growth potential. Two of the patents have been officially granted, while the other two will be issued next week.

"Kit Check was founded on innovations for medication tracking and processing," said Kit Check's chief product officer Tim Kress-Spatz in a statement. "Our engineering team invented hospital pharmacy kit restocking automation and has applied these unique technologies and approaches to other areas of hospital medication tracking. We are pleased the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office agreed our inventions are meaningful and merit patent protection."

Currently, Kit Check software tracks RFID tags used on medication in hospitals, limiting human error and helping hospitals plan ahead. In the last year it added a new product to keep an eye on anesthesia, which could play a crucial role in helping operations go smoothly.

Kit Check has been growing fast. It added 101 new hospitals to its client list in 2014 for a total of more than 150, and has tracked over 5 million medications since it began. With the patents secure and with the capital in place, Kit Check said it plans to add even more clients to its portfolio as well as pursue additional patents.
