Uber Will Get You to Your Wedding In Time for 'I Do'

Wedding season is starting and Uber wants to be part of the happy day for D.C. couples. The ride-hailing app announced this week that it is launching a way to include Uber into the festivities.

Basically, you can create a custom promo code for your wedding and distribute it to your guests for $20 off a ride. It's only for a first ride so it might not be much help to local friends who use Uber regularly, but it could be a great way of saving on getting a bus for out-of-town visitors who may not have used Uber before.

Uber has played around with wedding promotions before, but this is the first time this particular offer has come to the whole East Coast. And it's the kind of wedding feature that fits right in with the growing addition of technology to the vast wedding industry. WeddingWire's platform for planning every detail of a wedding, Tweet the Bride sends a specialist to run all of the social media for a wedding and digital Save the Date cards and personal websites are more and more common. Uber's addition to the mix could be a real help on what is already a stressful day.

"We know how important the big day is, and understand that coordinating transportation for family and friends can be stressful," Uber spokesman Taylor Bennett said in an email interview. "That's why we wanted to provide our riders with the option to create their own promo code to ensure wedding guests could get a safe, reliable ride at the touch of a button. I'll be using it for mine in June!"
