Get Ready To Pitch Your Startup: ABC's Shark Tank Is Coming to DC

ABC’s Shark Tank is coming to D.C. this weekend, according to the Associated Press. The hit television show’s casting team will be holding a casting call Saturday at The Hive 2.0, a startup co-working lab located in southeast D.C.

The reality show—featuring a panel of venture capitalists and CEOs who judge and then potentially invest in startups—says up to 50 companies will be chosen to pitch their businesses to casting directors. Shark Tank is in its sixth season, which will begin April 10. According to ABC, the "sharks" have invested more than $50 million in various companies highlighted during the duration of the show.

The news comes just one day after Shark Tank and featured VC Lori Greiner signed a promotional deal with Staples. Staples and Greiner have agreed to offer advice and knowledge via a business panel in a Staples store hosted event located in New York City. More importantly, the agreement will also offer featured products seen on ABC’s television show available on Staples.com and in select Staples stores.

On April 17, The Phoebe Group & Hive 2.0 are presenting another event called "DC Shark Tank Pitch and Watch Party." It is an unaffiliated Shark Tank Pitch event where local businesses will compete to secure a prize package worth more than $400, three free months at The Hive 2.0 (Affiliate Membership) and one free admission to "Guerrrilla Make a $$$Million Marketing Class.” It is unclear whether this Saturday's casting call and the following week's event are related in any other fashion aside from the event’s title.

DC Inno has reached out to The Hive 2.0 for comment and will update this post if further information is available.
