Here's what we've found for the best startup and tech networking events in the D.C. area to check out this week.

Monday

Event: Adopting encryption in newsrooms - the easy way

Location: Open Gov Hub 1110 Vermont Ave NW Suite 500 Washington, DC 20005 Date/Time: Monday, March 16 — 6pm to 9pm Price: Free

Keynote speaker Dave Perera, Politico's Cybersecurity Reporter, will discuss how to integrate encryption into the newsroom with the use of a YubiKey NEO. The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press is an American nonprofit organization, founded in 1970, that provides free legal assistance to and on behalf of journalists. The Reporters Committee's Jenn Henrichsen will introduce the discussion and moderate Q & A.

Tuesday

Event: Startup Grind Washington DC Hosts Congressman Darrell Issa

Location: Google DC 25 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, 9th floor Washington, DC 20001 Date/Time: Tuesday, March 17 — 6pm to 9pm Price: $20

Startup Grind DC will be hosting Congressman Darrell Issa (R-Ca.), formerly the CEO of Directed Electronics, a Vista, California-based manufacturer that is one of the largest makers of automobile aftermarket security and convenience products. Issa has long been vigilant about protecting the intellectual property rights of artists and other entrepreneurs. Some of the topics to be covered include Intellectual Property, Internet Privacy, and other policies impacting the startup community. The event is hosted by Brian Park, currently the COO of Startup Grind. The event’s schedule will follow:

Event: 2015 GW Startup Career Expo

Location: Marvin Center, 3rd floor 800 21st Street NW Washington, DC 20052 Date/Time: Tuesday, March 17 — 1pm to 4pm Price: Free

In partnership with the George Washington University and other local universities, The Startup Career Expo gathers hundreds of the regions most entrepreneurial students and some of the hottest startups from the greater DC area, to network for internships and job opportunities. Startup employers and students must register to participate. Event: 1st Annual Shamrock Oyster Shuck

Location: Orange Anchor 3050 K St NW Washington, DC 20007 Date/Time: Tuesday, March 17th — 2pm to 8pm Price: $60

The newly opened Orange Anchor is throwing their first oyster-fueled party from its waterfront patio. Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with bottomless champagne, oysters on ice, and all-you-can drink beers by the can.

Wednesday

Event: DC Tech Meetup #34: Demos, Demos, Demos

Location: Miracle Theater 535 8th Street Southeast Washington, DC Date/Time: Wednesday, March 18 — 7pm to 9pm Price: Free

Sponsored by iStrategy Labs and HiRise, the event will provide an evening of live demos from companies developing great technology in Washington DC. The night will lead off with introductions from Landmark’s Stephanie Nguyen, Shana Glenzer of SocialRadar, iStrategyLabs CMO & Managing Director DJ Saul and Contactually CEO Zvi Band. The end of the event will be topped with an open mic conversation regarding job opportunities. Watch some great demos and see what’s going on in the D.C. tech scene.
