Baltimore may have Johns Hopkins University, but it seems as if even a prestigious institution like that won't stop this local startup from relocating to Texas because of a new medical school.

VitaTrackr, a company that develops software to improve the use of data in health care by providing greater access, improved outcomes and lower costs, is moving to Austin – a decision mostly based on the construction of the University of Texas Dell Medical School.

"The fact that Austin has supported the construction of the first new medical school attached to a Tier 1 research university in the country over the last fifty years is evidence of its commitment to the health of the community and its intent to shape the future of healthcare," said Brian Baum, founder and CEO of vitaTrackr. "The Dell Medical School was a significant factor in our decision to come to Austin."

The startup is creating a health data marketplace that facilitates the movement of health data from the point at which it's created to qualified destinations. VitaTrackr plans to beta test its products expected to go live in 2015.

While the development of a new medical school is exciting, a move to Austin is concerning given that Baltimore is home to Johns Hopkins – a university that has consistently been ranked within the top three medical schools in the country. If it's a commitment to health care you're looking for, there's no better school than Johns Hopkins to work with on your venture.
