1776 Gets Another Corporate Partner in Dell Deal

Dell

1776 has been on something of a roll in new partnerships and the tech startup incubator is keeping the trend going with its announcement Wednesday that it will team up with Dell. Dell may not be as familiar a name in PC's compared to its "Dude, you're getting a Dell!" commercial heyday, but it still ranked as the world's third-largest PC vendor last year and still brings a lot of money and influence to the table.

"Like 1776, Dell understands that entrepreneurs and small businesses are the key to rebuilding the global economy," said Donnis Harris, co-founder of 1776.

The Dell partnership will be through its Center for Entrepreneurs, which helps fund and support startups around the world. At 1776, this means that member companies will have access to technology from Dell that shoestring budget tech startups might not normally be able to get. Dell will also host workshops and classes and provide advice and mentoring to the companies at 1776.

"As a company that began in Michael Dell’s dorm room, Dell has supported start-ups and business owners for years, knowing first-hand the power of an entrepreneur, said Ingrid Vanderveldt, Dell’s entrepreneur in residence in a release. "For Dell, it’s not just a business strategy, but a corporate philosophy. Teaming with 1776 allows us to expand our reach and ensure that some of today’s most innovative startups have access to the resources they need to grow and succeed."

In the last few months, 1776 has announced partnerships with MedStar Health and Booz Allen Hamilton. It also filed for a $25 million seed fund although has yet to release any public comment. Hopefully, this will translate into success for some of the dozens of startups at 1776.

"Corporate relationships like Dell have the ability to fundamentally impact the direction and success of our startups, so we are thrilled to be working together," Harris said."
